MEDIA RELEASE: FOOTAGE RELEASED TODAY OF ILLEGAL WHALING IN THE ANTARCTIC
The release today of distressing footage featuring the killing of whales in our oceans is deeply troubling. This footage is from the 2008 Australian Customs mission to the Antarctic.
When last in Government Labor took action by taking Japan to court over its so called ‘scientific’ whaling. The case - in the International Court of Justice - was successful and the footage released today was used as evidence in the court case.
The Government of Japan continues to defy the judgment of International Court of Justice 2014 on Whaling in the Antarctic, which found Japan’s whaling to be illegal.
Labor is outraged by the lack of action and leadership on this issue by Malcolm Turnbull and Josh Frydenberg.
We know the Japanese whaling fleet is currently on the water - the Government must take action now to end this slaughter.
