MEDIA RELEASE: Malcolm Turnbull must not hide from scrutiny

Malcolm Turnbull today conceded he will try to avoid the scrutiny of Parliament when MPs return to Canberra in two weeks’ time.

When asked if the House of Representatives will sit for the week commencing Monday, 18 April, Mr Turnbull said:

“The lower house will sit for a portion of that time, for at least the first part of the week beginning Monday, April 18.”

If around 150 MPs are flying to Canberra for Parliament it should be a normal parliamentary sitting week with Question Time every day beginning Monday.

Anything less is a pure indulgence on the part of the Prime Minister and would be treating taxpayers as mugs.

If Parliament is being recalled then members should put in a full week of work in Canberra and Malcolm Turnbull should face the scrutiny of Question Time.

Anything less than a full parliamentary sitting week with Question Time would be an insult to Australian taxpayers.

We cannot have a situation where Mr Turnbull is recalling the entire Parliament for a political stunt but avoiding scrutiny of his actions.
