STATEMENT: ELECTORATE OFFICE RELOCATION

ELECTORATE OFFICE RELOCATION

A few years ago it became apparent through media reports that the cost to the public of my electorate office was higher than the cost of most other electorate offices. It surprised me at the time given that I knew my electorate office was smaller than the standard electorate office and I had deliberately not sought a re-fit at any point in time.

It emerged that the reason for the increased cost was based on a rental agreement between the Department of Finance and centre management at Roselands Shopping Centre. An agreement over which I had no control.

The only way available for me to be able to seek a lower cost arrangement was to request that my office be moved. This move was agreed to by the Department of Finance some months ago and has been completed today.

As a result in the next report of expenses there will be an increased charge attached to my name for the moving of the office. I am confident though that the significant reduction in rent will mean lower costs for my electorate office in future.
