GOVERNMENT MUST RELEASE SECRET AMENDMENTS NOW

Christian Porter must immediately follow through on his pledge to release the secret amendments to his anti-worker union-bashing legislation.

Earlier this week Minister Porter arrogantly rejected Labor’s calls to publicly release the changes to his so-called Ensuring Integrity Bill so they could be properly scrutinised before the Senate votes.

But after Senate crossbenchers joined Labor’s calls today he backflipped, saying he will release them “shortly”.

He must not delay. He should release them today.
The public, the media, parliamentarians and stakeholders have a right to properly examine these changes.

Christian Porter needs to stop treating the Australian people with contempt and come clean on his plans. Every day he refuses to release these amendments is another day he dodges proper scrutiny.

Labor has always said this Bill is so fundamentally flawed that amendments cannot fix its core problems. Labor is confident the release of these amendments will only prove this point.

These are extreme and dangerous laws that will rob ordinary workers of their workplace advocates – the organisations that fight for better wages, combat wage theft and exploitation, and keep workers safe.
