LIBERALS WANT TO MAKE IT EASIER TO SACK PEOPLE

Scott Morrison must stand up to his backbench and immediately rule out any industrial relations changes that would make it easier for bosses to sack people.

The Liberals didn’t mention IR during the election campaign and now we know why – because they want to resurrect key elements of WorkChoices.

News that the backbench is pushing Morrison to water down unfair dismissal laws should worry every Australian.

Unfair Dismissal laws protect people from being dismissed from their job in a harsh, unjust or unreasonable manner. They are an important safeguard.

The Liberals wound them back as part of WorkChoices – a policy comprehensively rejected by the Australian people - and then Labor restored them.

But now the Liberals once again have a compliant Senate, just as they did in 2004, they seem hellbent on launching a fresh attack on workers’ pay, conditions and rights.

Australian workers need better wages and more secure jobs. They need protection from rampant wage theft and unsafe workplaces.

What they don’t need is another Liberal attack on their pay and conditions. What they don’t need is WorkChoices 2.0.
