EXPRESS CLOSURE A BLOW FOR LOCAL AREA
The closure of the Canterbury Bankstown Express newspaper is a sad blow for my local community.
The Express has been an vital community voice since well before I became the MP for Watson. For many years it has provided an important platform for this diverse community, telling stories that have contributed to harmony and understanding.
My thoughts are with the journalists and other staff who may lose their jobs as a result of this decision. I wish them all the best with what’s next.
It’s unclear whether this will also impact jobs at the Chullora printing press in my electorate.
Today is another dark day for journalism across Australia – particularly regional and suburban communities.
While the Express is expected to continue as a digital-only product, it will undoubtedly tell fewer local stories and reach fewer local people. That’s a terrible shame.
