Despite spending $100 billion the Morrison Government continues to leave working Australians worse off, delivering a cut to real wages instead of a plan to overcome the worst wages growth in the Nation’s history.

While wages grew by an average of 3.6 per cent under Labor, the Liberals’ and Nationals’ have an abysmal record on low wages growth, the ABS data today confirming wages growth of just 1.5 per cent over the year to March 2021.

We know that the costs of basics, like childcare are going up under the Coalition, and yet there isn’t a plan from Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg to grow the wages of working families.

With the cost of living set to grow quicker than wages, families will need to make stagnant wages go even further.

This begs the question; how many essentials are families going to have go without because of Scott Morrison’s failures on wages?

Only the Liberals can spend $100 billion and in the process lock-in a cut to wages.

Last week, Anthony Albanese announced that a Labor Government will develop laws that criminalise wage theft nationwide. Labor will also get a better deal for gig workers being underpaid and will end the labour hire rorts that undercut wages and conditions.

Australians need and deserve a government that is on their side, prioritising good, secure, well-paid jobs, with fair pay and conditions.

Under the Liberals and Nationals, Australians are working harder but can afford less.

Only Labor is on your side and fighting to build an economy that is stronger and fairer after the pandemic than it was before.
