STATEMENT ON MISINFORMATION SPREAD BY SHADOW MINISTER JAMES PATERSON

One day on and he’s still got it wrong.

Yesterday shadow minister James Paterson made wild  exaggerations about the number of visas granted to family members of those stranded in this country by the former government’s neglect.

This was no minor error. The numbers he cited were ten times higher than the actual figures.

This afternoon, he’s still promoting the lie online.

James Paterson has developed a pattern of speaking with tones of great authority while uttering words which are simply wrong.

The lack of experience from Mr Paterson and the fact he has never served as a minister is showing.

Does Peter Dutton find it acceptable one of his shadow ministers can get it so embarrassingly wrong – and persist with the falsehood even after he’s been found out.

In National Security, misinformation and wild exaggerations are dangerous. He lacks the maturity for Home Affairs.
