CELEBRATING AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP

Today Australia welcomes almost 15,000 new citizens.

On behalf of the Australian Government, we send a warm congratulations to everyone who will mark this Australia Day by formalising their commitment to our nation.

Today these Australians will join the over 6 million people who - since the dawn of Australian citizenship in the 1949 - have migrated to Australia to build a new life and contribute so much to our nation.

Across every State and Territory, almost 280 citizenship ceremonies will take place. People hailing from over 150 countries will pledge their allegiance to our nation and become the newest amongst us to share the common bond of Australian citizenship.

Australia Day is a time to celebrate our shared Australian citizenship. A day to be proud of the modern, democratic and multicultural nation that our ancient continent – with all of its history and tradition - has become.

It is because of our success, as a free and democratic nation, that so many people, from all across the globe, choose to migrate to our shores to call Australia home. And, Australia Day is a day to reflect on and celebrate the shared values that bring us together.

The Albanese Labor Government has provided more than $10 million for more than 750 Australia Day events across the country to celebrate the diversity of our nation and bring communities together. More info on events can be found here.
